Tottenham Hotspur have announced Roberto De Zerbi’s full backroom staff and assistants ahead of Spurs’ resumption of play after a three week break due to international football and the FA Cup. De Zerbi is adding two new assistants, but retaining a number of staff inherited from Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor — notably, Tudor top assistant Bruno Saltor reserves his place in at Spurs, along with Andreas Georgson, Cameron Campbell, and Fabian Otte. The announcement was made on Tottenham’s website.

Following the recent arrival of Roberto De Zerbi as our new Men’s Head Coach, we can now confirm the full structure of the Men’s First Team coaching staff.

Marcattilio Marcattilii and Marcello Quinto join as First Team Fitness Coach and Senior Professional Development Phase Coach, respectively.

Marcattilio, also known as Marco, brings a wealth of experience to the role. He began working with Roberto in 2015 at Italian side Foggia and has been a part of his backroom staff since.

Marcello has worked closely with Roberto over the past three years during his time at both Brighton & Hove Albion and Marseille.

Marcattilio and Marcello join Bruno Saltor (Assistant Coach), Andreas Georgson (Assistant Coach), Cameron Campbell (Individual Development Coach) and Fabian Otte (Goalkeeping Coach) on the coaching staff. They will continue to be supported by Stuart Lewis and Dean Brill.

Both Marcattilii and Quinto were on De Zerbi’s staff at Brighton and Marseille, so RDZ is clearly putting together a team that’s at least moderately familiar to him. Retaining Bruno Saltor is interesting, though. There were rumors since RDZ’s appointment that former Spurs midfielder and cult hero Sandro Ranieri was going to be a part of De Zerbi’s backroom staff, a decision that might have helped bridge the gap between De Zerbi and the segment of the fan base that opposed his appointment. That turned out not to be the case, apparently, but Sandro was shown at training this morning greeting players as they took the pitch.

Sandro’s role, if any, is unclear at the moment but it doesn’t appear as though he’s part of RDZ’s coaching staff. Sandro has publicly expressed support for De Zerbi’s management, having played under him at Benevento and now calling him “the best manager I ever played under.” Maybe Sandro has some backroom role that isn’t formally part of the coaching staff, or maybe he was just there to say hi to RDZ and catch up with the club, with which he is still on very good terms. Regardless, De Zerbi now has a full staff and has has five days, including today, to prepare for what already feels like a must-win away match against Sunderland on Sunday (Sundayland? I’ll keep workshopping).
