Oklahoma Sooners beat Kentucky 10-2 in run-rule win

The Oklahoma Sooners fell behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning against the Kentucky Wildcats, but it didn't take long for OU to turn the tide in their 10-2 run-rule win.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the first, Kai Minor led off the game with a walk, and NCAA home run leader Kendall Wells added to her total with a two-run home run on the first pitch she saw. It was Wells 28th home run of the season and brought her to within two of tying the NCAA freshman record of 30 home runs in a season.
Two batters later, with two outs in the inning, Kasidi Pickering hit her 15th home run of the season to give Oklahoma the 3-2 lead.
Starting pitcher Audrey Lowry settled in to retire the side in order in the second, including back-to-back strikeouts to close the frame. In the bottom of the second, Ailana Agbayani led off with a double and Kai Minor drove her in with two outs to make it 4-2 Sooners.
Lowry kept Kentucky from answering in the third, stranding runners on first and third to end the inning.
In the bottom of the inning, Oklahoma exploded for five runs, all with two outs in the inning. Agbayani walked and Sydney Barker was hit by a pitch. Abby Dayton reached on a bunt single to load the bases for Minor, who drove in two with a two-RBI single to extend the Sooners' lead to 6-2. Wells walked to reload the bases, and Dayton scored on a wild pitch, making it 7-2 OU. With runners on second and third with two outs, Ella Parker walked to load the bases again. Gabbie Garcia drove in two with a single to make it 9-2 Oklahoma heading into the fourth.

In the fifth, Minor singled to lead off the inning and moved to third on Wells' single before Parker finished the game off with an RBI double to earn the run-rule win for the Sooners.
Oklahoma's true freshman led the way with perfect nights at the plate. Minor and Wells combined to go 5-for-5 with three walks, a home run, five RBIs, and five runs scored. Minor raised her average back over .500 on the season and Wells is now hitting .393 on the season.
Parker also reached base three times with a double and two walks on the evening. Kasidi Pickering was the only other Sooner to reach base multiple times.
The Sooners were excellent with runners on base, especially with two outs. Oklahoma was 7-for-13 with runners on base and 5-for-10 with two outs. The Sooners recorded two-out six RBIs in the win.
Lowry moved to 17-1 on the season. She allowed two earned runs on five hits but didn't allow a walk in the victory. Berkley Zache made her SEC debut and allowed one hit and a walk, but struck out two in a scoreless fifth inning.
The Sooners moved to 36-3 on the season and 9-1 in SEC play. They're still in a first-place tie atop the conference after Texas beat Alabama in Austin.
Oklahoma will play Kentucky again on Friday in game two of their three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT.
