Virginia Tech softball: Hokies blow out Elon for 15th straight win

· Yahoo Sports

How is the Virginia Tech Hokies softball team not in the top 10? That’s a great question, and on Wednesday, the Lady Hokies were back in action, this time blowing away the Elon Phoenix with a 14-2 run-rule victory. It was Virginia Tech’s 15th straight victory and the 11th-ranked Hokies are now 22-2 on the season.

As we’ve seen often, the Hokies jumped on the opposing team, scoring two runs in the first inning as Zoe Yaeger and Addison Fisher each drove in runs to take a 2-0 lead.

Rachel Castine would hit her seventh home run on the season, and she tied Yaeger for the team lead with four RBI. The Hokies finished with 10 hits, and Elon had just three.

Addyson Fisher made her first career start, going 3+ innings, allowing three hits, two runs and two walks, while striking out three. Sophie Kleiman pitched three scoreless innings in relief, allowing no hits, walking two and striking out four to earn her fifth win on the season.

This was Virginia Tech’s seventh run-rule victory of the season.

Next up for the Hokies is another trip in North Carolina, as they open ACC play with a three-game series at Duke beginning on Friday.
