Sean Miller’s Texas Longhorns are strong NCAA tournament candidates in his first season, with analytics projecting their likely selection on Sunday.
According to Bart Torvik’s postseason model, the Longhorns have an 88.3% chance to make the field of 68, a staggering turnaround for a team that spent much of the winter hovering near the bubble.
Miller's debut season resume features key late wins and multiple victories over ranked or tournament-bound teams, proving they can handle close games against SEC contenders. Questions remain if Texas is a true mid-seed threat or just a solid first-round opponent. Defensive lapses and streaky three-point shooting persist, with Miller admitting they defensive unit needs to make improvements to make an impact in March.
“For us, it’s really simple. We have to continue to develop and become a better defensive team. We can’t try to outscore every opponent. We have to be able to get big stops. We have to foul less. We have to defend the three-point line more.” Miller said earlier this month.
Texas closes the regular season with four SEC games, at Georgia on Saturday, home against Florida, then road trips to Texas A&M and Arkansas before finishing against Oklahoma at Moody Center, giving Sean Miller’s squad multiple chances to solidify its NCAA tournament resume.
