The Chicago Sky is sending star forward Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream in a deal, per Taylor Rooks.
There was a viral rumor that Reese had requested a trade from the Sky after the 2025 season, but that was never confirmed. Still, the star forward and the organization kept butting heads to the point where supporters of Reese began wearing "Free Angel" shirts to games.
Reese has now been freed and will get a clean slate, starting fresh with the Dream for the 2026 season.
Here is more on the deal that sees the Sky sending Reese to the Dream in a surprise deal.

Angel Reese trade details
Dream acquire:
- F Angel Reese
- Right to swap 2nd round picks with the Sky in 2028
Sky acquire:
- 2027 1st round pick
- 2028 1st round pick
Reese is heading to Atlanta, but one of the more interesting aspects of this deal is that Chicago is only getting back future draft capital.
This is also the third trade that the Sky have made this offseason. Chicago made trades with both the Toronto Tempo and the Portland Fire for the assurance that neither expansion team would select a Sky player, protected or not, in the 2026 expansion draft.

Why did the Sky trade Angel Reese?
The relationship between the Sky and Reese was tumultuous at best. The star forward often butted heads with her franchise, and was even suspended a half for comments "detrimental to the team." Reese had said at one point that she was not happy with the direction of the franchise and stated that the team needed to bring in good players or she would consider leaving.
The recent CBA agreement also involved contract restructuring for active deals. Reese made between $75,000 and $80,000 last season and was set to receive a hefty raise to approximately $350,000.
The Sky could have dealt with her contract, but the front office took the chance to trade Reese to the Dream and add an extra first-round pick in the next two drafts to add some more foundational pieces to Kamilla Cardoso and Ariel Atkins.
