The Red Wings now own the longest playoff drought in the NHL at nine years, after the Buffalo Sabres clinched a playoff spot Saturday to break a 14-year streak.
The Red Wings have benefitted from other recent swoons from Eastern Conference foes, including the Columbus Blue Jackets and Ottawa Senators, making a four-way tie for the final wild-card spot in the East, along with the surging Philadelphia Flyers.

Red Wings next game
The Red Wings (40-28-8) host the Minnesota Wild (43-21-12) on Sunday, April 5, at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit (1 p.m. ET).
The Flyers host the Bruins on Sunday afternoon (3:30 p.m.) and the Senators host the Hurricanes on Sunday evening (5 p.m.). Columbus' next game is at Detroit on Tuesday.
