Alex Bowman's hopes to make the 2026 Chase likely over amid injury

· Yahoo Sports

The top priority for Alex Bowman is returning to 100% health; however, it is also fair to assess the Hendrick Motorsports driver's situation in NASCAR. With 19 races left in the regular season, Bowman sits 144 points behind the Chase bubble. More than likely, the driver of the No. 48 car's Chase hopes are over.

Bowman is also set to miss the NASCAR Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway, which will give him an even wider points gap with 18 races left before the reset. The driver of the No. 48 car is simply unlikely to make up around 150 to 175 points in 18 races, which is common for any competitor.

The only benefit of NASCAR's first off weekend is the extra time to let Bowman's body heal before returning to the No. 48 car. At this point, Bowman's full focus should be coming back at full health. With the Chase likely out of the picture, Bowman's future has to be the center point in the decisions moving forward.
