Shohei Ohtani and his Japanese teammates fell short of achieving their ultimate goal of defending the World Baseball Classic title they won in 2023, after they went down to eventual champions Venezuela at the quarterfinal stage of this year’s tournament.
There is no doubting however that Ohtani remains the biggest name and star in the sport of baseball.

This was clearly evident after the results of a recent auction, where a jersey donned by Ohtani during the 2026 WBC was sold for the incredible amount of $1,500,010, per TMZ. This was also the highest price ever paid for an Ohtani jersey.

1.5 million reasons to purchase Shoehei’s jersey
The $1.5 million jersey was one which Ohtani wore during Japan’s massive 13-0 victory over Chinese Taipei in Tokyo on March 6.
Ohtani had a masterful performance in that game, as the Los Angeles Dodgers superstar drove in five runs and blasted a grand slam in the win.
Unfortunately for Japan, they weren’t quite able to keep that same level of momentum going the rest of the tournament, with the side unable to produce the championship outcome their baseball mad nation desired.

Luckily for Ohtani, Opening Day in the MLB is set to take place this week and the four time MVP winner will soon get the chance to make amends for the disappointment his national team experienced at the recent WBC.
