More bad news for a top 2026 NFL Draft wide receiver
· Yahoo Sports
There's a good chance the Washington Commanders will use the No. 7 overall pick in next month's 2026 NFL Draft on a wide receiver. After missing out on Alec Pierce and Romeo Doubs in free agency, general manager Adam Pierce has made it clear the position is a priority.
The Commanderssigned Dyami Brown and Van Jefferson in free agency. Both will provide depth and are not even guaranteed to make the 53-man roster. Those signings were to ensure the receiver position, from top to bottom, is in a better spot than it was in 2025. Washington still needs a starter opposite Terry McLaurin.

There's a good chance that the Commanders eventually acquire Brandon Aiyuk when the 49ers inevitably move on from him. That may not happen until June, though. Does Washington want to take the chance that some team actually gives San Francisco a pick for Aiyuk and his contract? It doesn't seem possible, but never say never.
Back to the draft.
While this is considered a deep wide receiver class, three players stand above the rest: Carnell Tate (Ohio State), Makai Lemon (USC) and Jordyn Tyson (Arizona State). Depending on who you talk to, each of the three have a strong case to be the top receiver taken in next month's draft.
However, Tyson has some red flags due to his health. As a freshman, Tyson suffered a torn ACL, MCL and PCL. In 2024, he suffered a broken collarbone. And last season, he missed four games with separate hamstring injuries. Now, there's potentially more bad news for Tyson.
NFL draft analyst Dane Brugler of The Athletic revealed that Tyson will be unable to participate in Arizona State's pro day due to the lingering hamstring injury.
Here's Brugler:
It’s been 3 months 21 days since Jordyn Tyson last played a game.

According to Dane Brugler, he won’t participate at his Pro Day.
Also sounds like his hamstring may have flared up during his training.

This is not good news for the 6-foot-2, 203-pound Tyson. He did not work out at the NFL combine last month either. Brugler said Tyson was hopeful that he'd be able to run some routes sometime before the draft. Arizona State's pro day is on March 27, which would give Tyson less than one month to work out for NFL teams.
When you watch the tape, Tyson may be the most impressive receiver in the class. He does everything well and is explosive on the field. Tyson can play inside or outside and runs smooth routes and thrives in contested catch situations.
Tyson is a first-round talent. But he's looking increasingly too risky for the Commanders with the No. 7 overall pick. If Washington could somehow move down, he would become a more viable option. It's unfortunate for Tyson, who is a terrific player.
