Five-peat! Penn State wrestling wins 2026 NCAA national championship
· Yahoo Sports
Even as time flies by, some things remain the same. For the fifth straight year, Penn State wrestling will add a national championship trophy to its collection. A dominant showing in the consolation rounds by freshmen PJ Duke and Marcus Blaze helped Penn State's team clinch this year's NCAA wrestling national championship.

This is Penn State's 13th national championship in the past 16 years (there was no championship tournament in 2020) and head coach Cael Sanderson has led Penn State in each. In doing so, Sanderson is now second in NCAA all-time history with 13 head coaching titles, bringing him two shy of the all-time record.

Duke took home a third-place finish after ending his tournament with a 5-1 record. He was named a third-place All-American as a result and his performance is what helped Penn State officially clinch a team title with a team point total of 164.0 points, which is about 50 points more than any other school in the field.

Blaze reached the third-place bout following a victory over Tyler Knox of Stanford in his first match of the day. But Blaze was defeated by Aaron Seidel of Virginia Tech in the third-place bout, bringing Blaze to a 4-2 run in the NCAA championships. Both Blaze and Duke have been recognized as true freshman All-Americans, and each will play a critical role in continuing Penn State's wrestling dominance in the next few years.
But there is potentially so much more celebrating to do later today as six Penn State wrestlers compete in the finals of the NCAA championships. All six Penn State wrestlers competing in the finals on Saturday evening are top seeds. Penn State may have already clinched a national title as a team, but the Nittany Lions hope to write a little more history with some individual titles.
