Tampa, Fla. — Among the minor-league campers joining the Tigers as extra players for Sunday's spring training game against the New York Yankees was 2025 first-round pick Jordan Yost.

The 19-year-old Yost made the most of the experience, for sure. He swatted a grand slam home run in his only at-bat in the eighth inning in a 12-1 Tigers victory marred by a few rain delays.

With no one out, Yost blasted a 1-0 pitch from Yankees righthander Zach Messinger to right to make it 11-0.

"I told him, 'That didn't suck,' Tigers manager AJ Hinch said. "Really cool to see. I joked with him that the only people left after the second rain delay would be his pass list. Glad they waited. That was a really cool moment. He will go home happy."

Yost was selected No. 24 overall in 2025 out of Sickles High School in Citrus Park. He is No. 9 among MLB Pipeline's top 30 Tigers prospects.

“It was nice to catch up with him,” Hinch said. “He is from Tampa. He’s actually played in this stadium a few times when he was in high school. It’s always nice for those guys to come over and get a look at what big-leaguers look like since it’s what they aspire to be.”
