Now, Team USA faces elimination at the 2026 World Baseball Classic despite their first three performances. Prior to the tournament, the Americans boasted the best odds to win the tournament alongside Japan, Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.

How USA can qualify for quarterfinals at 2026 WBC
Despite Italy’s win on Tuesday night, the Americans’ easiest path to the quarterfinals is if the Europeans beat Mexico.
However, Team USA can still reach the final eight with a Mexico win, but the scenarios are more complicated. The Mexican team must score four runs or less in a win or else Italy and Mexico would reach the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Mexico’s offense could ruin things for America if they manage five runs or more against the Italians. That would ensure both Italy and Mexico places in the next round and send the U.S. packing.
