The Miami (OH) men’s basketball team has played part in a hotly-contested discussion recently about their qualifications for the NCAA Tournament.
Former college basketball coach Bruce Pearl went on a viral rant last week claiming that the Redhawks aren’t deserving of an at-large bid. However, Miami (OH) is ranked 19th in the country after their 31-0 season.
Head coach Travis Steele and his squad can lock up an automatic bid by winning the MAC Tournament next week, but many analysts and former players disagree with Pearl’s take.

The last college basketball team to go undefeated during the regular season was the Gonzaga Bulldogs during the 2020-21 campaign. However, Gonzaga only played 24 games before March Madness that season.

Seven teams in college basketball history have gone on to finish the entire year undefeated. That includes the legendary Indiana Hoosiers coached by Bob Knight back in 1975-76.
Meanwhile, the UCLA Bruins and John Wooden accomplished the rare feat twice during back-to-back seasons over 50 years ago. Miami (OH) has the rare chance to join an even more exclusive club next month if the Redhawks can make a run during the NCAA Tournament.
