The Philadelphia Eagles have needs along the edge this offseason and one way they can address that is by simply bringing back one of their pending free agents.

That pending free agent is edge rusher Jaelan Phillips, who was acquired via trade with the Miami Dolphins before last year's trade deadline.

But, as we know when it comes to NFL free agency, nothing is certain and it's quite possible Phillips could be playing elsewhere in 2026.

In the opinion of ESPN's Dan Graziano, that's exactly what's going to happen. And, making matters worse, Graziano predicts Phillips will land with one of the Eagles' division rivals, the Washington Commanders.

Here's more from Graziano, who projects a four-year, $92 million deal for Phillips:

Phillips comes with that injury history, but he played well for the Eagles after being traded to Philadelphia from Miami at the deadline -- and they have at least some interest in trying to keep him. Two of his five sacks last season came in Philly. He's a young free agent (still just 26), and that helps mitigate the injury risk a little. It's possible he does a one-year prove-it deal somewhere if his market doesn't do what he hopes it does. And it's also possible a division rival snatches him away.

Predicted landing spot: Washington Commanders

The Commanders finished in the middle of the pack in sacks last season and need more juice along the edge, even if Von Miller returns.

Phillips comes with some risk, though, and especially at that massive projection from Graziano.

A former first-round pick of the Dolphins, Phillips looked to be on a star trajectory over his first two seasons in the NFL, when he tallied 15.5 sacks in that span.

However, Phillips was slowed by major injuries in the years that followed, with the Miami product suffering an Achilles tear and torn ACL in back-to-back seasons.

Phillips did rebound to play in all 17 games in 2025 but only tallied five sacks. It is reasonable to believe better days are ahead for him given the fact he was in his first year back after a major injury.

If Phillips does indeed command that much, the Commanders can afford it, with the team sitting with $69.9 million in cap space in 2026.
