Barcelona confirm it’s Joan Laporta vs Victor Font as presidency race hots up

Barcelona announced on Thursday that Joan Laporta and Victor Font are the two official candidates for the presidency of the club ahead of the vote on March 15th.

Both candidates have presented the required number of 2,337 signatures to proceed, while Marc Ciria has fallen short and is out of the race.

Ciria, who had promised Hansi Flick transfer funds of 110 million and vowed to bring Lionel Messi back, presented 2,844 signatures but only 2,247 were valid, leaving him 90 short.

Laporta submitted 8,170 signatures (with 7,226 validated) and Font came up with 5,144 (and 4,440 validated).

The two candidates will now continue on the campaign trail ahead of the elections on March 15th.

Laporta remains the favorite to win and be re-elected. He beat Font last time in 2021, winning 54 per cent of the vote, while Font finished on 29.99 per cent and Toni Freixa took 8.58 per cent.
