Kershaw, while retired from professional baseball, is still taking part in the offseason tournament and representing Team USA, his last outing as a baseball player.
Initially, Kershaw was just going to make some emergency appearances as needed, but with American starters entering with pitch limitations, the southpaw may end up pitching more than he expected.
Ohtani, meanwhile, will be hitting for Team Japan since the Dodgers requested that he not pitch.

“I think, for our country’s sake, it’s probably better if I don’t,” Kershaw said.
Ohtani is the greatest player in the world, hitting like a top-3 batter and pitching like a top-5 pitcher. With only hitting to focus on, Ohtani can be the best hitter in the world, and Kershaw is right to be concerned about facing the Japanese sensation.
It would be a same-same match-up for Kershaw, though, using his ability to get lefty hitters out at a higher clip than he would a righty.
While it is not the same as the Ohtani-Mike Trout moment from 2023, when both players were near the peak of their powers, an Ohtani-Kershaw moment would certainly leave Dodger fans torn.
