As the Denver Broncos approach the start of the new league year, which kicks off with the opening of this year's free-agent market on March 11, the wide receiver position is one that the team needs to formulate multiple plans of attack.

The wide receiver position is a bit light in both free agency and the draft, so the best approach might be for the Broncos to look to make a trade. Not just a little trade, a big, blockbuster-type of deal. The top name many fans would like to see the team obtain is Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown.

If Brown can be traded for, the Broncos will have some competition. Both the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots have been connected to Brown through rumors this offseason and both of those teams feel they are Super Bowl contenders next season.

However, the first question that must be answered is this: Is Brown even available for trade? If you listen to Eagles' general manager Howie Roseman, he's not.

What would it take for the Broncos to trade for A.J. Brown?

Roseman states that he's not looking to trade Brown, but as any GM will tell you, most any player can be bought for the right price. As noted here, teams would have to be talking about giving up their first-round pick, at minimum, to even get the conversation started.

Roseman is one of the best general managers in the league, and he knows what he has in Brown. It's quite possible that he would want more than the Broncos' first-round pick (No. 30 overall) in exchange for Brown. While that may seem reasonable to Eagles fans, it's not reasonable for the Broncos.

Denver needs a legitimate No. 1 wide receiver. It has been obvious since the beginning of his career that Courtland Sutton is more of a No. 2 option, and at this stage of his career, that is definitely what his role should be. But the Broncos can't break the bank to get a player such as Brown, either.

Brown would be a tremendous addition to the Broncos' roster. There are character concerns, as Brown does seem to sulk when he doesn't get the ball as much as he would like to, but much of that seems overblown as well. In the right locker room, he can thrive.

DRAFT NEWS: Broncos have three obvious moves with first-round pick following Kenyon Sadiq's combine showing

With that said, if Brown is truly available for trade, George Paton and Sean Payton need to decide what their highest bid would be and see if Roseman would be agreeable. If Roseman would take a day three draft pick, perhaps in 2027, then the Broncos could pull the trigger. But giving up much more than this year's first-round choice should not be considered.
