Douglas’ career high leads Lady Bears to lopsided win
· Yahoo Sports
SPRINGFIELD–Lainie Douglas scored a career-high 28 points and Kaemyn Bekemeier became the 32nd Lady Bear to reach 1,000 career points, as Missouri State pummeled Delaware, 83-57, on Saturday, to snap its 3-game losing streak.
After recording a season-low 43 points, in a disappointing loss at home, to Liberty, Thursday night, Lady Bears Head Coach, Beth Cunningham wasn’t pleased with her team’s “toughness” and wanted to see more commitment from them rebounding, diving for loose balls, and playing defense.

The effort shown 36 hours later was a complete 180. Call it “supercharged” from the pre-game excitement of Senior Day, or, putting all their practice to proper use, either way, the Lady Bears played like the team fans are used to watching at Great Southern Bank Arena.
Douglas scored 10 of her 28 points in the first quarter, alone, by going 4-4 from the field and 2-2 at the foul line. In the second quarter, Bekemeier got going. The junior guard had 8 points in the period, thanks to hitting both of her three point attempts, to give MSU a 39-33 edge at halftime.
Once the second half began, MO State kicked it into high gear, both offensively and defensively.
In the third quarter, the Lady Bears didn’t allow the Blue Hens to score a single point from the field, despite Delaware attempting 9 shots. Meanwhile, Douglas, Bekemeier, and true freshman, Kendal Brueggan kept filling up the basket, as MSU outscored Delaware, 24-8 in the period.
The runaway victory will be a shortlived thrill, though, since MSU will turn around and face Sam Houston State in just three days, when the two clash on Tuesday, February 21.
