· Yahoo Sports

The Philadelphia 76ers were unable to end their road trip on a good note as they fell to the Portland Trail Blazers 135-118 on Monday night. The Sixers were looking for a 4-1 West Coast trip, but the Blazers turned them back as they used a big 49-22 third quarter to take control of the game with Philadelphia unable to rally back.

The Sixers were led by Tyrese Maxey with 30 points and four assists, Kelly Oubre Jr. added 19 points and four steals, and Trendon Watford had 12 points. Justin Edwards had 10 points and VJ Edgecombe had 11 points, six rebounds, and three assists.

Here are the three biggest takeaways following the loss:

3-point discrepancy

This was the big difference in the game. The Blazers knocked down 22 triples compared to just 11 for Philadelphia as it allowed Portland to gain the separation it did in the third quarter. Toumani Camara, especially, was terrific for the Blazers as he knocked down eight by himself. These nights happen in the NBA, but the Sixers were unable to keep up with the hot shooting Blazers on Monday night.

Rebounding difference

There isn’t much the Sixers could do in this one with so many players sidelined. Not having Embiid and Barlow certainly hurt in this part of the game as there was a lot of pressure on Drummond, Adem Bona, and Watford to have to hold off the likes of Donovan Clingan, Deni Avdija, Camara, and others. There isn’t much the Sixers could do in this one due to the players who were sidelined, but the Blazers dominated in this area and it led to a big offensive night for them.

An overall good road trip

Despite this loss in Portland, the Sixers had a very good road trip at 3-2. They very easily could have picked up a fourth win in Los Angeles when they saw a 14-point lead slip away to the Lakers, but Philadelphia has to be happy with the results when considering it was the trade deadline, the team dealt with the emotions of the Jared McCain and Eric Gordon trades, and some weird scheduling in California on the trip. The Sixers will now look to head home and enter the All-Star break on a high note when they host the New York Knicks on Wednesday.
